FIA HELPS THE AEROSPACE INDUSTRY TAKE FLIGHT

Every two years the quiet Hampshire town of Farnborough soars into life and transforms itself into the Farnborough International Airshow, the world’s largest temporary exhibition of its kind. Over the 7 days of the event, globetrotting visitors from every corner of the map come to be amazed by the breath-taking air displays and the latest inventions in aviation technology.

BACKGROUND

FIA is considered the runway of trade creation in the aerospace industry. The event spans across the entire 5km² site at Farnborough airfield, with over 1,500 exhibitors touching down for the week.

The 49th edition of the event coincided with the centenary of aviation history, and this was to be the central theme throughout. Farnborough International Ltd, the team behind FIA, wanted to celebrate this by achieving a record amount of trade revenue propelled by the event, and we were tasked to help. This is the third year we partnered FIA to service every aspect of the event, and we were under no illusion that a temporary event of this magnitude would not come without some degree of turbulence.

THE SOLUTION

The key to any success lies within preparation and teamwork. This became our philosophy throughout the event. We established an open dialogue, not just with FIA, but also with every key partner and supplier to the event. Working closely with each and every person involved in the delivery of FIA, we developed an integrated planning system that minimised potential hiccups along the way.

Five months was spent on-site prior to the show, constructing the main attractions and exhibitor spaces that would facilitate business commitments. We provided enhanced shell schemes covering an area of 2,500m2 for exhibitors to get their products on the radar of potential buyers. Each shell scheme incorporated the stylish branding of the event and was equipped with electrics and furniture.

To encourage exhibitor-buyer discussions we created areas where buyers could engage with key industry players and exhibitors. We provided the creative input on the design and build for hospitality chalets, international pavilions and 10 organiser areas including the UK MoD lounge, which housed some key names in politics. David Cameron opened the event and brought with him very strict security measures including some last minute itinerary changes. Through our commitment to preparation and quick adaptation, we were able to accommodate for these changes to the flight path.

THE RESULTS

  • A major contribution to an event that achieved £133billion worth of orders, a £87billion increase from 2012.
  • We delivered all appointed services on time and within budget.
  • Our creative input on the build and design helped to increase the value of bookings for 2016.
  • An event that saw attendance during trade week cruise to almost 100,000 visitors.
  • 75% of exhibitors rated their overall experience and visitor quality as either good or excellent.
  • Helped FIA achieve a global reach with 40,914 Tweets to 42,763,983 people.
