Being an exhibit designer who attends Healthcare Convention & Exhibitors Association (HCEA) year after year gives me a unique perspective on designing exhibits. After a few years of trial and error exhibiting at this event, it reminds me of Frank Sinatra singing New York, New York…. “If I can make it there, I’ll make it anywhere”…it’s up to you HCEA.
What makes designing an exhibit for the HCEA’s annual meeting a unique challenge is trying to engage an extremely savvy group that knows every exhibiting trick in the book. The audience demands your best and no exhibitor should just “wing it.” Pre-show planning meetings feel like the struggles of Ishmael and Captain Ahab as we devise themes to hone in on the elusive healthcare exhibit professional.
Another thing I’ve learned is that healthcare exhibitors crave the latest technologies and trends. In the end, if you can create an exhibit that meets your company’s objectives, leverage technology to tell your story AND create some new relationships – you are successful.
The uniqueness of HCEA is also in the setting. The past 10 years alone have included New Orleans, Tampa, Salt Lake City, Philadelphia and Palm Springs. Activities are planned for attendees from sun up to well past sun down. From keynote breakfast speakers, to late night galas, HCEA keeps every waking hour moving. HCEA is also a well-oiled machine with high professional standards and educational courses. For attendees and exhibitors this means numerous opportunities for professional development and education.
If there’s one thing I believe you should capitalize on it’s the association’s size. It’s small enough to have annual meetings in unique venues, yet big enough to draw a quality group of professionals.
But, I save the best for last, the food. Some of the finest meals I’ve had in my life have been during HCEA events. HCEA’s evening events often include the host city’s top restaurants and offer the very best cuisine. On the one open evening of this year’s three-day event I recommend Bartolotta at Wynn Las Vegas.
